In 1993, Paul graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Arts. His first book, Ten Tiny Terrapins (Methuen) was commissioned from work at his degree show. This was just the start of a successful career in children's book design and illustration, taking him through various roles to Design Manager, before setting up his own design studio, Basement68. He has illustrated a variety of published work including Bedtime Little Monsters (Little Tiger Press), but a renewed focus on illustration means that Paul has been busy creating a brand new portfolio of quirky characters, perfect for picture books. A great combination of expressive line, vibrant colour and textual elements make his irrepressible characters bounce off the page with humour and style. His understanding of layout and graphics make for exciting compositions.

An acoustic guitar playing music lover, Paul is an avid collector of vinyl and a fan of album cover art. He lives in Brighton with his wife and young daughter.
